The mountain effect piles snow deep in these valleys, creating conditions that favor snowmobilers, skiers, and those who appreciate the beauty of a true northern winter. By spring, when the snow finally releases its grip, Porter emerges into a brief mud season before summer brings the lake back to life and the cycle continues.
